The Plough Publishing House has been publishing and selling books and magazines for many years. The authors are either members of our communities or others whose writings resonate with our beliefs. Plough titles have been translated into dozens of languages. Some are distributed as part of a prison visitation program. For titles available, please click here.
The books and articles deal with such topics as forgiveness and reconciliation, God-ordained marriage, family life and end-of-life issues. Books are available for sale at each community, or by mail order or online as free downloads.
The communities provide an evening meal once a week for long time friends to drop by, for neighbours or for people who simply need a hot meal. Our other activities include Christmas food distribution to disadvantaged families, local youth work, prison visitation and counselling work with the elderly. Several times a year each of our communities hosts an open day which is often combined with a seasonal celebration, for example, harvest or Christmas Carol singing.
Our communities often host classes from local schools who take the opportunity to learn about our unique way of life. Extensive journeys are also made by our community members to encourage others in the Christian faith and establish close relationships with other similar communities.
Sharing our resources when we are able, for alleviation of human suffering or for furthering the goals of Christian community, is a vital part of our faith and mission. By partnering with several well-known humanitarian organizations, we continue to find ways to help victims of poverty, disease and natural disaster. When possible, our members travel to affected areas, such as the recent earthquake in Pakistan, to work alongside local groups. Some serve as short-term volunteers, while others go for longer stints, for instance, working as teachers in tsunami-ravaged Thailand.
